Bloggers Quilt Festival October 2009

Park City Girl is hosting the

and I thought I should be game and participate.

The quilt I have chosen was made for a dear friends' baby girl born in August this year. My friend had been collecting different kinds of pink fabric for years and always wanted to make a quilt out of them, but did not quite dare to have a go herself. So I offered to make it for her, and I think this is my best quilt so far, I love it! (and so do my friend and her husband, she nearly cried when I gave it to them :) )
I had about 12 different kinds of 10 inch cuts to work with. What better to do than a chinese coin quilt on white to showcase the beautiful fabrics she had chosen:

My first time to stipple a whole quilt :)
(pictures were taken after I had washed and dried the quilt)

I chose green binding to bring out the leaves in some of the fabrics

I love pieced backings:

Ready to be given away:

Miss 7's Quilt

Of course then our daughter wanted one as well, so I went about making one for her, totally different style, my first try of a raggedy edge quilt (again, I did not do a "normal" raggedy edge, I do not like the crosses in the fabric that usually characterize them, and I wanted to have different size patches as well...)

Mister 9's Quilt

Our son is into soccer (just like his Dad ;) ) , and my obsession with quilting started about 2 1/2 years ago when I wanted a soccer quilt for him and could not find one I liked...so what does one do? Make one! Never mind I had no sewing machine or any clue about sewing. lol. A dear friend gave me a sewing machine she no longer needed and then I went onto designing (with help from my husband) a quilt I really loved. I mean following a pattern would be too easy, right?

So here you go, my first ever quilt:

( I had not finished hand stitching the binding when I took this shot)

Hope you like it as much as we do :)

Thanks for dropping by.

School Holiday Fun

Good morning :)

It's school holidays here at the moment and the weather has finally improved! (After we had the coldest day on record in 75 years on Tuesday with a maximum of 13 degrees (in late September...).
So yesterday was spent outside, on the trampoline, in the sandpit, at the park...more of the same planned for today. I love school holidays, no rushing around, just relaxing and hanging out.

I also hope to get some sewing done as well.
My passion is quilting (after I first touched a sewing machine about 2 1/2 years ago, I am now hooked. I refused to even go near one before that, go figure...) and I have a few projects I am working on atm. This one is for my mum for christmas (She was quite upset that my grandma got one last year and she did not)

I am loving stacked coin quilts, they are so easy but effective. The fabric I used is a silky batik, and looks just beautiful. After a lot of deliberation what to use for the backing I ordered some fabric from here. It arrived very quickly, and the exchange rate to the US dollar is great right now.

You can't really see the beautiful detail and colour in this picture, have a look here to see it properly :)

Another little project that I am working on is a playmat quilt for my friends baby.
Just a simple D9P that has been sandwiched and quilted, just need to add the binding and label.

Ok, better go and get us all out of the house and into the sunshine.

Thanks for dropping by :)

ETA: Can someone tell me how to adjust the time? This seems to be publishing on US time which makes even the date incorrect...it's Oct 2nd here already)

First of many?

After a lovely long lunch with the girls I have again been reminded that I should be blogging. My EB Quilters girls have been telling me for ages, so might just start, finally ;)

So what to start with? Well, today was a lovely lovely Sunday. Went out to Lunch with the bookclub girls to farewell Beverly to distant Bunbury :( Won't go into the food (or better desserts and the service) but the company was fantastic, ended up going to the local Pub afterwards and got home at 6 pm, ooops!

So, just a quick one for today, to see if I can get this published, lol!

Thanks for dropping by!
